Our commitment

How we deliver our mission

Research & Publications

Our mission is to actively promote and support the creation and dissemination of endoscopy-related scientific publications and knowledge of the highest standards, benefiting both aspiring and recognized researchers.

We execute this commitment through three core initiatives:

  • BSGIE Prizes: We offer awards for the best abstract and oral presentation at the BSGIE section of the Belgian Week of Gastroenterology (BWGE).
  • Multicenter Protocols: We coordinate Belgian multicentric studies across a diverse range of endoscopy topics.
  • Editorial Contribution: Our Associate Editor at Acta Gastro-Enterologica Belgica (AGEB)manages endoscopy submissions, ensuring and promoting high scientific quality.

Education & Trainings

One of the core missions of the BSGIE is education. Through our various initiatives, we are committed to offering high-quality training opportunities that reflect the evolving practice of endoscopy. Excellence, patient safety, and the exchange of ideas lie at the heart of our educational activities.

We currently offer:

  • Hands-on training during our annual Autumn Meeting, as well as dedicated sessions for endoscopy nurses.
  • A sedation course, which will be offered for the very first time during Belgian Week 2026.

We’re also proud to announce the development of a brand-new initiative:

Basic Endoscopy Course

Our new standardized, national training program in basic endoscopy is on its way! Designed for 4th-year trainees from all Belgian universities, the program will include practical, hands-on stations and will be led by experienced endoscopists from across the country, with the valuable support of our industry partners.

This exciting project is still in development — we aim to launch in September 2026.
Stay tuned for more updates!

Scientific Meetings

*Belgian Week of Gastroenterology (BWGE) — As a founding partner, we run scientific sessions. Abstracts are peer-reviewed and selected anonymously by the BSGIE board..

Autumn Meeting — Morning hands-on workshops for trainees, parallel programs for endoscopy nurses and young endoscopists (BygGIE) followed by afternoon clinical symposiums for endoscopists and nurses.

Continuous Learning

Our biweekly clinical quiz program delivers short, clinically relevant, evidence-based content with playful ranking systems and rewards. These accessible learning tools integrate seamlessly into daily practice while progressing toward accreditation recognition.

Global Impact

We extend our expertise through ongoing collaboration with international centers such as WGO-RTC (Rabat), contributing to improved clinical practices in developing regions and maintaining active participation in international endoscopic communities.

Community Building

We foster professional and informal connections while establishing quality standards and disseminating best practices in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
